Hannah Chang

Duration: (15:53 min) Live-Action Short Film

Stuck in a violent and corrupt system, a teenager befriends the voice of a dead body in the bathroom vents and plots to expose her school’s negligence.

About Soap

The story is inspired by a comic I wrote as a teenager. The film illustrates the fears of feeling unheard and ignored, also drawing inspiration from my childhood phobias of one-way tunnels, death, and creepy presences in the dark.

Soap explores the surreal human-sized venting systems of Garbage High, which leads to one of the corrupt secondary school’s darkest secrets. Building a physical space that serves to represent the depths of the protagonist’s morbid curiosity was an important aspect in creating an uncomfortable and frightening experience. It has been extremely rewarding to see Soap come to life through my capstone film.
