This illustration features elements of my childhood, including favorite books, movies, special stuffies, dust bunnies, a glass of water in case of nightmares, and of course: an overactive imagination.

Worry Dragons, 2023

To help with understanding childhood anxiety, one of the methods taught to me as a child was the ‘worry dragons’ concept. It is a way to visualize or characterize fears, and tackle them in a different way.

Grandma’s Roti, 2022

A side project reflecting on the intergenerational relationship between my younger self and my grandma. We would bond through cooking, making one of my favorite foods: roti!
This fledgling story concept follows a young girl’s trip to grandma’s house, and through many trials (and mishaps) the recipe is complete. At the end, our family roti recipe would be included.

I’m Kendra Heer, a Canadian illustrator. I’ve lived my entire life in North Vancouver, BC, surrounded by an array of art, nature and skyscrapers. My art is very much inspired by childhood memories, the whimsical and imaginative. I love anything fantasy: dragons, fairies, witches, and monsters. Whether its exploring the quiet moments— like cooking with family, or exciting scenes of adventures and fantasy, I’d love to work on any project where I can create something special.

I have graduated from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in 2023 with a BFA in Illustration, and I would love to move on to new adventures! I am interested in children’s book illustration, and other types of editorial illustration. Please feel free to send me an email for any inquiries: klynne.heer@hotmail.com
