YiWei Zhang is a Chinese-born illustrator based in Shanghai. She studied illustration at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She always travels between countries and likes to study multi-cultures and subcultures. Her specialties include character design, story development, and bookmaking. She usually works digitally and likes to play with paper media. Quilting and cooking are her daily hobbies. She also loves comics, games and animes, and has always dreamed of living with a cat for the previous 20 years.

As an illustrator who studied in Vancouver, her current work was inspired by the indigenous culture and depicts themes of mental interconnection and cultural symbols with the natural world. Her work “In the Wood”(2023) is an illumination of human-animal relationships and life and spiritual continuity.
