STATEMENT

“WATCH OUT” is a three-part series of digital illustrations that explores death and the otherworldly. Influenced and inspired by Nico Delort’s black and white scratchboard illustrations and Junji Ito’s horror manga, I wanted this project to play with creepiness and darker themes. The three illustrations conjures a short narrative of someone in a place where they do not belong, overtaken by the unnatural nighttime forest that keeps a close watch on her every move. I wanted to evoke a sense of uncertainty and question of whether death was feared or welcomed. In her most vulnerable state, transforming and nude, is this otherworldly figure a comforting guide or something sinister?
