CAUTION: Spoilers Ahead
Documents of Life studies a kitchen left by a grandmother who had passed away. The kitchen reflects how she lived her life– what she did, liked, and who she loved. The objects move, making tea and putting away bottles, and nostalgia arises as we realize the cause of the supernatural phenomenon: the grandma’s spirit lives in the kitchen. Cleaning and organizing objects for the last time, the grandmother’s spirit hopes that her family will not be too sad, and continue to seek her through her kitchen objects. Documents of Life emphasize that all things perish through time, including objects, relationships, and people, which reminds us to treasure what we have in the present.

Sophia has been actively involved in ECU community as a member of the Search Committee, Graduation Committee, and a curator for the 3D Animation screening for The Show (2023). She was a recipient of Emily Carr University Achievement Scholarship in 2020 and 2021, Christopher Foundation Scholarship and Simon Chang Award in 2022.
